BDE: Mrs. Golda Teichman, A"H
We are saddened to inform you of the passing of Mrs.
Teichman, a”h, a symbol of mesirus nefesh and emunah peshutah, who
passed away early this morning at the age of 95.
She was born in the town of Orshova, known in Ukranian as
Yilnitza. The town is known to some as the first Rabbinic position of the
Divrei Yoel of Satmar, zt”l. for the first forty years of her life, she
lived with complete mesirus nefesh for Torah and Yiddishkeit, under the
Communist boot. In this time, the Teichman’s became especially close to the
Ribnitzer Rebbe, zt”l.
When they arrived in New York, they needed to work long,
hard hours to support themselves. But their Yiddishkeit was the central
presence in their lives. They joined the Monostricher Shul on 11th
avenue, where Mrs. Teichman is remembered for her dedication and her temimus.
She would come to shul for decades, never missing a tefillah,
reciting each word with such carefulness. Even when she grew old and weak, she
insisted on coming, rising each time the tzibbur rose—despite her
advanced age. When she could no longer see, she came to hear the tefillos.
She was zoche to raise a Torah family, beginning in Ukraine,
and continued on American soil, and they remain a testament to her incredible
life of mesirus nefesh.
The levaya will take place at Shomrei Hadas at 1:00, and
kevurah will be in the Monostricher chelkah in the Floral Park Cemetery.
