BDE: Mrs. Libby Werdiger, a"h

We regret to inform you of the passing of Mrs. Leba Werdiger, a"h, a longtime Boro Park resident, and a matriarch of a prominent Torah family. She was 97 years of age. 

The nifteres was born in Sanok, Galicia, to her father Reb Yosef Chaim and her mother Chaya Breindl Tisser, and she was raised in a home permeated with Torah and chassidus. They survived the war in Siberia, and from there settled in Boro Park where they remained for the rest of their lives. 

Libby married the legendary Gerer chossid Reb Nechemia Werdiger, a diamond cutter, a truly old-fashioned Poilisher chossid who survived the war in Buchenwald along with one brother from his entire family. Together, they built a home predicated on Torah and chassidus, yiras Shomayim and chessed - including the well-known R’ Shloime Werdiger of Agudath Yisroel.

Mrs. Werdiger was known for her selfless chessed to one and all. She merited to see a fifth generation, and she was full of life. She knew every one of her descendants by name. Although she had endured so much in her life, she was filled with warmth, and always knew how to compliment every person she encountered. She had tremendous joy and vivaciousness, and this infected all those who came into her home. 

Mrs. Werdiger was a true regal matriarch who presided over her beautiful Torah family with love and inner strength until her last days. 

The levaya will take place at Shomrei Hadas at 12:30 this afternoon, and kevurah will take place at the Montefiore Cemetery. To watch the Levaye live click here.
