BDE: R’ Nachman Hirschenbaum, z”l
By: Yehuda Alter
We are sad to report about the passing of Reb Nachman Hirschenbaum, a longtime resident of Boro Park who made Aliyah to Eretz Yisrael in recent years. He was 79 years of age.
The niftar was an ardent Gerer chosid who also became endeared to mispalelim in other shuls that he frequented.
During his years in America, he was a pillar of the Kossoner Beis Medrash on 14th avenue and he was deeply beloved by the rebbe (who today resides in Linden) and by the entire community who loved to sit and shmooze with him. A special tradition that he has was to produce wine and must for Pesach for the Rebbes home. Many of chassidim as well would buy from him.
A few years ago, he fulfilled a lifelong dream of settling in Eretz Yisrael, where a number of his children reside. Here too, he endeared himself upon the residents of his neighborhood and in the shuls where he davened.
He remained active until his last day, and was known to be extremely makpid on tefillah b’tzibbur.
Wednesday afternoon, he felt unwell, and collapsed at home, returning his soul to its maker a short time later. He leaves behind a large family that is bereft in the aftermath of his sudden passing.
