We are saddened to inform you of the passing of R’ Shmiel Katz, a beloved mispalel at the Ch’san Sofer minyan, as well as within the Bobover Chassidus. He was 64 years of age and was niftar suddenly after suffering a heart attack.
The niftar was a longtime resident of Boro Park, and was a lifelong talmid of the Mattesdorfer Ruv. In the yeshiva, he acquired a deep ahavas haTorah which he retained until his last day. “His entire life was Torah, related a son. It brought him the greatest joy, and when he was learning, nothing else existed,” related a son.
R’ Shmiel was known to be stalwart and indefatigable with everything that had to do with avodas Hashem. He would rarely miss a shiur, no matter the weather or anything else that was happening in his life.
Rav Leib Fischer, the rov of the Ch’san Sofer kehillah, recalled his sweet birchas kohanim, and that the niftar indeed followed in the ways of his great ancestor, Aharon Hakohen, in pursuing peace with everyone, always having a good word and a smile.
The levaya took place Wednesday evening at Shomrei Hadas, and kevurah was in the chelka of Ch’san Sofer.
Yehi zichro baruch.
