BDE: Rav Chaim Yitzchok Eizik Teitelbaum, zt”l, Slatfina Rov.

We are saddened to inform you of the passing of the Slatfina Rov late last night at the untimely age of 68. He was stricken with the Coronavirus Pesach time of last year, and sadly never recovered.

He was born to his father, Rav Yoel Teitelbaum, Kirlhazer Rov of Boro Park and before that Crown Heights. The shul of his father remains to this day on 49th Street. His mother was a daughter of Rav Chaim Yitzchok Eizik Teitelbaum of Slatfina, a town near Sighet, and he was a son in law of the Atzei Chaim of Sighet.

He learned in the Zhelimer Cheder in Williamsburg, and later in Yeshiva Torah Vodaath, where he became close to the Rosh Yeshiva, Rav Gedalya Schorr and he received semicha from him. From there, he moved on to Beis Medrash Elyon—a legendary place that raised the next generation of American-born gedolim. Since that time he became known as a mamid and a talmid chochom for all his life.

He was a son in law of the Beitcher Rebbe of Boro Park, Rav Shulem, zt”l., and together, they raised a beautiful family.

The Rov was a nehene m’yegiah kapav, he worked as a nursing home administrator for many years, and for many years as the Aishel Avrohom home in Williamsburg, where he became beloved by so many who came to know him through this.

He retired a number of years ago, and that’s when he returned to his beloved gemara. He learned from morning till night, with chavrusos and at shiurim.

His home was open to everyone; especially the most needy. He always had a smile for everyone, and cared for anyone in need.

As noted, he contracted the Coronavirus at the very beginning, and never recovered. He was niftar surrounded by his family.

The levaya will take place at the Beitcher Beis Medrash on 45th Street and 12th Avenue at 12:00 today.

Yehi Zichro Baruch
