BDE: Reb Shloime Tzvi Lefkowitz, z”l, 100 Years Old
By Y. S. Gold
We regret to inform you of the passing of Reb Shloime Tzvi Lefkowitz, z”l, a resident of Boro Park for more than half a century, an ardent chassidishe Yid who would pour out his heart in supplication to his Creator. He was 100 years of age.
Born in Keshanov, Galicia, to his father, Reb Yehoshua Lefkowitz, he spent his childhood and young adolescence steeped in the world of Torah and chassidus in Galicia of yore. The family were ardent Radomsker Chassidim, and this would be the world that he would remember for the remainder of his century on earth.
The Holocaust robbed him of his childly innocence, and of much of his family. He spent the war years in many of the concentration camps, and was on the death march at the end of the war, but he was fortunate to survive.
Arriving in America, he went into business, and manufactured caps for many years.
In the early years, he lived on the Lower East Side, where he davened in the Belzer Shtiebel, until 1968, when he moved his young family to Boro Park.
Here, he became very close to Rav Shimele of Amshinov, zt”l, and for many years, he served as the ba’al tefillah for Shachris on Rosh Hashanah in Amshinov. He davened with great warmth and heart, and remembered many of the niggunim from Poland of yore.
Reb Shloime Tzvi was a chassidishe yid to his core, and always sat and learned. He leaves behind a beautiful family of chassidim and yirei Shamayim, and a legacy of avodas Hashem over one century of life.
The levaya will take place at Shomrei Hadas at 11:00 this morning, and kevurah will be in the Bobover Beis Hachaim.
Yehi zichro baruch.
