YS GOLD
We regret to inform you of the passing of Rebbetzin Mattel Feiga Tumim, a"h, a longtime Boro Park resident, and the Alstadter Rebbetzin. She was 103 years of age, and devoted her life to Torah and chessed.
The Rebbetzin was born in Boston, Massachusets to her father, the Bostoner Rebbe, Rav Pinchos Dovid Horowitz. There she was raised toward a life of chessed and doing for others.
In 1946, she married Rav Yaakov Thumim, a scion of great tzaddikim and a talmid chochom in his own right. The shidduch was suggested by Rav Levi Yitzchak Horowitz of Boston, the brother of the kallah and a classmate of Rav Yaakov at Torah Vodaas. The couple settled in Williamsburg, and Rav Yaakov began to teach at Yeshiva Torah Vodaath.
In 1984, the rov and Rebbetzin opened the Alstadter Shul on 52nd Street, and it soon became a center of Torah and tefillah for the entire neighborhood for decades to come. The Rebbetzin was extremely devoted to supporting Torah and chessed causes.
The Rov and the Rebbetzin established beautiful Torah generations, with Rabbonim, many bnei Torah and marbitzei Torah among their offspring. Rav Thumim and his rebbetzin suffered a terrible tragedy with the untimely passing of their oldest child, their son, Rav Dovid, a talmid chochom and rav hamachshir, who perished in a plane crash while on a kashrus mission in Ecuador.
The Rebbetzin comes to the Next World greeted by her illustrious ancestors and filled with Torah and mitzvos.
The levaya will take place at the Altstadter Shul 1541-52nd Street at 11:00 this morning.
Yehi zichra baruch.
