It is with deep sadness that we report the passing of the Sadavna Rov, Rav Yitzchok Yaakov Sekula, zt”l, one of Boro Park’s most senior Rabbonim, and a Menahel in Torah Vodaas for over half a century.

He was in his early eighties.

He was the oldest son of his father, Rav Yerachmiel Yisroel Sekula, zt”l, the previous Sadavna Rov, who was a legend in old Boro Park and in the postwar community in America.

He hailed from generations of Rabbonim in Poland, and was known as a ga’on atzum and masmid who toiled mightily in Torah. He was connected with a deep passion to the tzaddikim of the Polish dynasties, such as the Beis Yisroel of Ger, the Amshinover Rebbe, the Aleksander Rebbe, and others.

His son, the niftar, inherited so many of these traits.

He was a talmid muvhak of Rav Reuven Grozovzky, zt”l, Rosh Yeshiva of Torah Vodaas, and he also learned under him in Beis Medrash Elyon in Monsey. He was known in his youth for his brilliance in Torah, and his Yoras shomayim, and he was deeply beloved by his rebbeim.

Rav Sekula served as the Menahel of the Beis Medrash of Torah Vodaas. He was appointed in this position by Rav Avrohom Pam, zt”l. He was beloved by every one of his thousands of talmidim.

Even after he left the yeshiva, he continued to deliver a shiur to Talmidim. Every word dripped with mastery of Kol hatorah hakulah and ge’onus in Torah. Torah was truly his entire life, and this is what he imbued in his Talmidim as well as his illustrious children whom he leaves behind.

The Levaya will take place at the Sadavna Beis Medrash, 51st street and 14th avenue, at 9:45 The Aron will be taken to Eretz Yisroel for kevurah.
