Boro Park at the Top: Latest Statistics Show Growth, Health, and Stability

By Y.M. Lowy

Newly released New York City statistics paint a familiar picture for Boro Park residents: a neighborhood that continues to grow, thrive, and stand out in both population and health.

According to the latest figures, Boro Park once again recorded the highest birth rate of any community district in the city. With 24.1 births per 1,000 residents, the neighborhood remains far ahead of the rest of New York, reflecting the strength of large families and a young, growing population. Williamsburg followed behind, but at a much lower rate.

Out of nearly 100,000 births citywide in 2023, close to 4,000 were to Jewish mothers, and the overwhelming majority of those births took place in Brooklyn. Local hospitals serving the heimishe community played a major role. Maimonides Medical Center, right here in Boro Park, reported more than 5,700 births, placing it among the busiest maternity hospitals in the city.

Beyond growth, the numbers also point to strong overall well-being. Boro Park residents enjoy one of the highest life expectancies in Brooklyn, averaging over 85 years. The neighborhood also recorded the lowest death rate in the borough, along with the lowest rate of premature infant deaths.

Safety indicators tell a similar story. Serious crime remains rare, with homicides averaging about one every two years, and overdose deaths far below the city average.

Taken together, the data reflects what locals already know: Boro Park is not just growing fast, but doing so with stability, strong family life, and a high quality of living that continues to set it apart.
