Boro Park Honors 9/11 Heroes: Remembering Our Own Fallen Firefighters

By BoroPark24 Staff

Today, on the 24th anniversary of September 11, we pause to honor the memory of the 2,977 lives lost in the terrorist attacks that shook America to its core. Among them were 343 members of the FDNY, who ran toward danger while everyone else ran away.

Here in Boro Park, the tragedy hit close to home. From Ladder 148 on 12th Avenue, we remember Lieutenant Philip S. Petti, 43, who grew up in Brooklyn dreaming of becoming a firefighter, served nearly 18 years in the FDNY, and especially treasured the friendships he built in the firehouse.

From Engine 250 on Foster Avenue, we honor Firefighter Michael Paul Ragusa, 29, who had waited seven years to join the FDNY, was assigned to Engine 250 but working with Engine 279 that morning, and was remembered as someone who would help neighbors at any hour.

This morning, FDNY members gathered across the city for a solemn moment of silence.

As we go about our day, we remember their courage, their sacrifice, and the unity that defined New York in the days that followed.
