BREAKING: ARRESTED: Suspect in Sunset Park Shooting in Custody

By Yehudit Garmaise

“We got him,” Mayor Adams said from Gracie Mansion about apprehending Brooklyn shooter suspect Frank James today. “[He issued] 33 shots but less than 30 hours later, we can say, ‘We got him.’

“I said to New Yorkers, we want to protect the people of this city and apprehend those people who want to bring terror to everyday New Yorkers.”

“Moments ago, Frank Robert James was spotted on the street and arrested by the NYPD at 1:42 pm at the corner of St. Mark’s Place and First Avenue in Manhattan,” said NYPD Police Commissioner Keechant Sewell. “He was taken into custody without incident, and has been transported to an NYPD facility.

“He will be charged with committing yesterday’s appalling crime in Brooklyn.”

Although hundreds of detectives have been scouring video evidence and canvassing the streets of New York City and state since 8:24 am Tuesday, what ultimately helped the police today find James was a crime-stopper tip they received over the phone.

The NYPD was helped by a vast number of law enforcement partners, such as the FBI, NYPD, Joint Terrorism Task Force, the ATF, the NYPD Crime Gun Intelligence Center, and the Regional Task Force led by the US Marshall Service.

Mayor Adams thanked the many New Yorkers who called in with tips, videos, photographs, and also those who helped the victims who were injured.

Sewell commended “all the police investigators and analysts who worked on this ‘all-hands-on-deck investigation.’”

“We hope this arrest brings some solace to the victims and to the people of the city of New York,” Commissioner Sewell said. “We used every resource at our disposal to gather and process the significant evidence that directly links Mr. James to the shooting.

We were able to shrink his world quickly,” said Sewell, about James, who was found to have a lengthy criminal history. “There was nowhere left for him to run.”
