BREAKING: Multiple Vehicles Stolen in Boro Park Using New Technology; Shomrim Investigating
By Y.M. Lowy
Boro Park residents are urged to stay alert following a recent spike in car thefts across the neighborhood. Several vehicles were stolen over the past few nights, including three reported thefts overnight.
The method these thieves use is unfamiliar and unlike that of other car thieves. The thieves are reportedly using a device that can reprogram or change a car’s key, allowing them to steal a vehicle in about five minutes. The thefts are carried out by a group that arrives with a few separate vehicles, working together to take the car quickly and quietly.
Boro Park residents are urged to take extra precautions. Shomrim recommends installing a third-party tracking device, such as an AirTag, hidden well inside the vehicle where thieves are unlikely to find it, or activating built-in vehicle tracking if your car has that feature available. Drivers are also reminded to always lock their cars and never leave any valuables inside.
The community is being asked to stay vigilant and report any suspicious activity, including unfamiliar vehicles circling the area or unusual behavior near parked cars. Anyone who sees something concerning should call 911 or contact BP Shomrim directly at 718-871-6666.
