Brooklyn Borough President’s Office Now Accepting Applications for Community Board Membership
By Y.M. Lowy
If you want a say in what happens in our neighborhood, now’s your chance. The Brooklyn Borough President’s Office is accepting applications for new Community Board members across the borough.
Community boards are made up of volunteers who live, work, or have a strong connection to the area. They review things like housing projects, liquor licenses, public transit, the city budget, and other city services. Each board has up to 50 members who serve two-year terms. Meetings happen monthly from September through June, and members are expected to attend both full board and committee meetings.
Anyone 16 or older can apply. If you’re already on a board, you need to reapply when your term ends. The process is simple: submit a short online application explaining why you want to join, then have a brief virtual conversation with someone from the Borough President’s office.
"From renters and public housing residents to young people and skilled trade workers, a diversity of voices helps our community boards make the most well-informed and impactful decisions. If you want to be one of those voices for your community, apply today!” said Brooklyn Borough President Antonio Reynoso.
Applications are open through February 6, 2026, at 11 p.m. You can apply at brooklynbp.nyc.gov/community-boards.
