Brooklyn Sees a Rise In COVID-19 Cases

On Wednesday, Mayor Bill de Blasio said that Sunset Park, a Brooklyn neighborhood, saw an uptick in coronavirus cases. Over the past two weeks, 228 tested positive for COVID-19.

De Blasio says that this is a “warning light” for something that needs to be further assessed. With a spike in NYC cases, a second wave may be on its way and sooner than anticipated.

The Mayor encouraged New Yorkers to get tested as quickly as possible so the city can take permitting action.

“We want to get everyone tested as quickly as possible to see what is going on if there’s something further we need to do,” he said. “The Sunset Park community is going to seven more of us in the days ahead.”

The number of COVID-19 tests taken in a single day in New York reached a new high of 87,776 on Tuesday, and in Sunset Park alone over the past two weeks, 3,300 residents were tested.
