Brown Water in Boro Park: DEP Responds to Resident Concerns

Recently, many Boro Park residents have expressed concerns about brown water coming from their taps, leading to questions about its cause and potential health risks.

In response, BoroPark24 reached out to the NYC Environmental Protection (DEP) department to get answers for the community.

According to a statement from the DEP to BoroPark24, the discolored water was caused by a disturbance to a water main by a private contractor working in the area last Friday. To address the issue, contractor and DEP crews worked quickly to open hydrants throughout the neighborhood, clearing any remaining discolored water from the system.

While the water may look unappealing, the DEP assures residents that it is not harmful to health. However, residents are advised to avoid consuming the discolored water. If you are experiencing brown water at your tap, the DEP recommends running the water until it clears and becomes cold.
