City Officials Blame NYPD for Rising Violence

City officials blame the rising violence in New York City on the NYPD slowdown and are therefore calling for an investigation.

The Department of Investigation will be investigating in the coming weeks.

Councilman Ritchie Torres and Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams believe the NYPD is slowing down in response to protests and police reforms that have been passed since demonstrations surrounding the death of George Floyd in May.

“The NYPD has been here for the people of New York in the past, we are here for them today, and we will be here for them tomorrow,” the NYPD said in response to the allegations.

Shootings are up by more than 87 percent in NYC this year compared to the same time in 2019.
