Development Planned to Replace Vintage Home at 55th Street

By: Boropark24 Staff

One of the more noticeable and unique vintage Boro Park homes will soon be demolished to make room for a modern, mixed-use building.

The home that has stood at the corner of 15th Avenue and 55th Street is almost iconic, with multiple large pillars at the entrance, along with a covered balcony overlooking a shady 55th Street. It was most likely home to one of Boro Park’s wealthy men who came to the upscale neighborhood of Boro Park, away from the squalor of the Lower East Side and the congestion of Brownsville and Williamsburg.

It has stood in disrepair for a while now, and now we learn that permits have been filed to demolish the home and replace it with a six-story, mixed-use building.

The ground level will host a medical office, and the upper floors will most likely have ten condominiums.

In all, the 65-foot structure will have approximately 23,000 square feet—serving as yet another mark of Boro Park’s transition to multi-level homes.
