Don’t Miss It: Flyovers and Tall Ships to Be Seen Across NYC This Week

By Y.M. Lowy

New York City is set for a week of major maritime activity as part of the “Sail4th 250” celebrations marking America’s 250th anniversary, bringing tall ships, naval vessels, and military flyovers across the city’s waterways and skyline.

As reported by BoroPark24, the event is taking place this year in July instead of the usual Memorial Day Fleet Week schedule. The celebration will run from Friday through Wednesday, with ships docking in New York Harbor and along parts of the city’s rivers.

One of the highlights for local residents will be this Shabbos, when aircraft flyovers are expected over the city as part of the aerial demonstrations tied to the celebrations. The show will include formations of U.S. and international aircraft, with the Blue Angels scheduled to lead the display over the harbor and surrounding waterways.

Additional flyovers are scheduled in the coming days as well.

Throughout the week, dozens of tall ships and naval vessels from around 40 countries will arrive in New York Harbor, creating a rare international maritime parade stretching across the waterfront. The ships will pass under the Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge before continuing north through the harbor, offering long viewing windows for those along the shoreline.

In addition to the parade, many of the visiting vessels will be docked at various points around the city and will be open for free public tours on select days, giving New Yorkers the chance to step aboard ships typically used for training and international missions.

Residents are encouraged to take advantage of the unique opportunity throughout the week, whether by watching the harbor procession or visiting the docked ships across the city.
