Dozens of Trees Down Across Boro Park Following Powerful Overnight Storm

By Y.M. Lowy

A powerful storm moved through Boro Park last night, bringing a sudden burst of heavy rain, strong winds, widespread flooding, and dozens of downed trees across the neighborhood. Some reports even suggested that a small tornado may have touched down in the area.

Across the neighborhood, trees were torn down by the storm, blocking streets and sidewalks, and breaking fences. A massive tree fell on 11th Avenue and 51st Street, while additional trees came down on 12th Avenue and 36th Street, 10th Avenue and 51st Street, and several other locations throughout Boro Park.

One of the most dramatic incidents occurred outside the Tiferes Rivka Ballroom on 38th Street, where a large tree came crashing down onto a vehicle. Miraculously, despite a person being inside the car, no injuries were reported, with the tree missing the occupant by mere inches!

Volunteers worked late into the night responding to calls for assistance. Volunteers removed fallen trees, cleared debris from roadways, and helped residents deal with flooding and storm-related hazards.

The intense downpour also left numerous streets flooded, creating difficult driving conditions throughout the area. In addition, traffic lights were reported malfunctioning at the intersection of 12th Avenue, 50th Street, and New Utrecht Avenue following the storm.

As cleanup efforts continue today, residents are encouraged to remain cautious around damaged trees, hanging branches, and any remaining flooded areas.
