Driver Mows Down Pole Inches Away From Where Children Play

Twelfth Avenue and 36th Street was the scene of yet another accident when a car lost control early Shabbos morning while going around the curve resulting in a direct collision with a Verizon pole.

According to video footage, the accident occurred around 4 a.m., as the driver lost control and ended up on the sidewalk before knocking down the telephone pole, which stopped his forward progress.

"This is a spot where children from an average of twenty-five families can be out playing," one neighbor said to BoroPark24. "And this has happened multiple times. Drivers go around the curve without slowing down and end up on the sidewalk. Baruch Hashem, no one has been seriously hurt yet, but with all the children outside, especially during the summer, it's a tragedy waiting to happen, chas v'shalom."

The neighbors want elected officials to champion their cause and keep their families safe before something much worse than a telephone pole getting knocked over happens chas v'shalom.

"This is a very dangerous section. If a driver goes straight without noticing the curve, he ends up on the sidewalk. As you can see from the dents in the gate right, there have already been many close calls right where our children play."

"At the very least, we need bollards on the sidewalk to block the cars from this central location," another neighbor echoes the neighborhood sentiment. "That will keep vehicles from ever reaching the gate where children from the entire neighborhood play daily. If that car had come down the street just a few hours later, I would hate to think of what would have happened!"
