Local Elected Officials Call for Immediate Flood Fix for Streets of Boro Park

Heavy rain last week wreaked havoc in Boro Park and Flatbush, where multiple intersections dramatically flooded, prompting State Sen. Simcha Felder, Assemblyman Simcha Eichenstein, and Councilmen Kalman Yeger, and Chaim Deutsch together wrote a letter that urged the immediate action of both Department of Environmental Protection Commissioner Vincent Sapienza and Department of Transportation Commissioner Polly Trottenberg, who recently stepped down.

“The safety hazard this poses to children, seniors and individuals with disabilities is of great concern,” together wrote Felder, Eichenstein, Yeger, and Deutsch, who represent Boro Park, Midwood, and Madison, which are all areas long suffered floods after heavy rains.

“The approaching winter weather will quickly turn rain and snow to dangerous black ice,” the elected officials wrote.  “While the drainage system throughout our districts is undoubtedly in dire need of updating, the most heavily affected areas must be addressed quickly.

“Community Boards 12 and 14 have repeatedly submitted lists of problem areas…These pooling and flooding issues require immediate attention.”
