Readers may recall the fire that broke out at the Appetizing Plus grocery on Chol Hamoed Pesach. Today, police revealed that the event has been ruled arson, and was carried out by a male of medium build.

“It was reported to police that on Monday, April 10, 2023, at approximately 1724 hours 5:24 p.m), in front of 1806 48 Street, an unidentified male individual did intentionally start a fire that damaged the Appetizing Plus grocery store which was within an occupied multiple dwelling,” the statement said.

“The male individual then fled on foot to parts unknown. There were no injuries reported as a result of this incident. The approximate value of property damage was $1,500,” it went on to say.

Police have video footage of the suspect, and described him as being approximately 55 to 58 years of age, of medium build, with a salt and pepper color beard.

The store was able to open for business immediately following Yom Tov despite the property damage, while police continue their hunt for the suspect.
