Fort Hamilton Receives $42M in Federal Funding

Fort Hamilton will receive $42 million in federal funding to cover operations and maintenance through 2030.
The money, approved earlier this year by Congress and the president, will pay for road and grounds work, plumbing and electrical repairs, pest control, HVAC servicing, and other needed projects.
Fort Hamilton is New York City’s only active military base. It is home to several Army units and also provides services to tens of thousands of veterans and retirees.
But while the federal government invests in the base, the Army is also moving to permanently close the Harbor Defense Museum, which sits inside the fort’s dry moat. The museum tells the story of Fort Hamilton’s 200-year history, and supporters want it to stay.
