Gas Prices Drop in Time for 49.13 Million Travelers to Hit the Road for Thanksgiving

GasBuddy released the results of its annual Thanksgiving Travel Survey last week, with forty-one percent of respondents stating they plan to take a road trip this year, an 8% increase from 2022.

And the timing couldn't be better, as prices at the tank are expected to reach numbers that haven't been seen since November 2020 just in time for one of the busiest travel days in years.

With the national average price of gas projected to drop to $3.25 per gallon, Americans will save nearly $1.2 billion during holiday travel over last year and nearly half a billion from Wednesday through Sunday for Thanksgiving, compared to the previous year, according to GasBuddy.

According to AAA, prices have dropped due to lower gas demand coupled with the declining price of oil.

GasBuddy's survey also revealed that most of the expected 49.13 million travelers plan to begin their trip Wednesday, November 22, or Thursday, November 23, and leave between 8-11 a.m.
