Gov. Hochul Notes “National Phenomenon” of Democratic Losses, Prominent Democrat Blames “Backlash Against Wokeness”

On Election Night last Tuesday, four Republicans won City Council Seats, and Republican Brian Fox is in a fierce battle he appears to be winning to take Democrat Justin Brannan’s seat, as absentee ballots are counted.

In addition, Republican Inna Vernikov, had no problem taking, by 30 points, the open seat of Brooklyn’s 48th District, which was lost to Democrat Steve Saperstein.

Democrats also lost the District Attorney’s race and are trailing in the race for county executive in Nassau County on Long Island.

“What happened in places like Nassau, that was a national phenomenon,” Gov. Hochul acknowledged today at the SOMOS conference in Puerto Rico, where many New York elected officials, lobbyists, and consultants are meeting to shmooze and to network. “I have a lot of family in Virginia. They are still shell-shocked by what happened there.”

In Virginia, Republican Glenn Youngkin sent shockwaves throughout the nation when he defeated Democrat Terry McAuliffe to serve as the state’s governor, and in New Jersey, Democrat Gov. Phil Murphy fought an unexpectedly fierce and close battle against Republican Jack Ciattarelli.

Republicans had so many surprising victories in Tuesday’ election that the Republican National Committee proclaimed in a statement, “The red wave is here!”

After Tuesday’s election results, nationwide, many stunned Democrats were quoted as realizing that “being anti-Trump maybe isn’t enough” for them to win elections.

In addition, the far-left ideologies that have taken over the Democratic Party in the past five to 10 years are also to blame.

For instance, longtime Democratic election consultant James Carville, who was famous for helping President Bill Clinton get elected in 1992, blamed the current cultural and political trends on the left for the nationwide hits that Democrats took at the poll on Tuesday.

“What went wrong is just stupid wokeness,” he told PBS NewsHour’s Judy Woodruff when she asked what happened in Virginia. “Don’t just look at Virginia and New Jersey.

“Look at Long Island, look at Buffalo, look at Minneapolis, even look at Seattle, Wash. I mean, this defund the police lunacy, this take Abraham Lincoln’s name off of schools.”

“Some of these people need to go to a ‘woke’ detox center or something,” the influential Democratic strategist said.

“They’re expressing a language that people just don’t use, and there’s backlash and a frustration at that.”
