Shortly after a tweet by Lee Zeldin, NY Governor Republican candidate, implying the governor was too scared to meet him head-on in debate, Governor Kathy Hochul agreed to participate in a public debate.
“It’s September 19, and mail-in ballots start going out in four days, but @KathyHochul still has not yet accepted ANY debate requests,” Zeldin tweeted. “She wants people to find out where she stands AFTER they vote, but it doesn’t work like that. Come out, come out wherever you are #ScaredyKat!”
“I’ve said all along I will,” she responded to a reporter during a press briefing on Monday morning, September 19, when asked if she would agree to a debate. “I said that the first time I was asked months ago. That’s never been in question.”
Without specifying where debates might be held or how many she would agree to do, Hochul proclaimed her campaign would announce its fall debate and event schedule within the week.
