Green-Wood Visitor Center Set to Open This April

Green-Wood Visitor Center Set to Open This April

By BoroPark24 Staff

The visitor center at Green-Wood Cemetery is finally ready to welcome the public.

After years of planning and construction, the new facility, known as the Green-House at Green-Wood, will officially open on April 18, giving Brooklyn residents their first opportunity to explore the space.

The project combines the restored historic Weir Greenhouse with a newly constructed terra-cotta–clad building built around the landmarked structure. The facility will serve as a hub for visitors, offering orientation areas, educational programming space, exhibitions, staff offices, and archival storage.

Green-Wood officials say the public areas of the building will remain free and open year-round.

Construction on the project has progressed over several years. Restoration of the greenhouse was first approved by the Landmarks Preservation Commission in 2015, while the final design for the visitor center complex was approved in 2021. The project later received a boost with $4.5 million in capital funding in 2022, followed by an additional $500,000 in state funding in 2023.
