Group of Youths Enter Parked G Train, Move It Without Authorization

By Yisroel R.

A group of youths entered an unoccupied G subway train late on the evening of February 11 and caused it to move while it was parked on a layup track near the Church Avenue station, according to transit sources and the NYPD.

Officials said the train was stored on a side track used during off-peak hours and was not in passenger service at the time. The youths allegedly gained access to the operator’s cab and attempted to operate the train. During the incident, the train moved and collided with another stationary G train on the same track.

No injuries were reported, as both trains were unoccupied. The unauthorized movement triggered an automated alarm at the Rail Control Center, and transit workers responded to secure the trains.

Investigators are reviewing surveillance footage to determine how the group accessed the cab. Authorities are examining whether a transit key was used or if the cab had been improperly secured. Officials emphasized that the train was never on an active passenger track and did not pose a danger to riders.
