Heavy Rain Storm Causing Mayhem and Flooding

Heavy Rain Storm Causing Mayhem and Flooding

By Y.M. Lowy

Today’s rainstorm is shaking things up in Boro Park. Streets are flooded, sidewalks are overflowing, and damage is visible throughout the neighborhood.

Several large trees have fallen in multiple locations, causing damage to property and blocking sidewalks. Crews worked quickly to remove branches and clear the pathways, ensuring pedestrians could pass safely. Earlier this morning, a tree came down on 55th Street near 14th Avenue and unfortunately a young girl was injured and had to be taken to the hospital.

Traffic is tricky too. The light at Ditmas Avenue and East 3rd Street isn’t working, and with all the water on the streets, getting around has been slow going.

The storm also caused property damage. In addition to flooding in many stores and houses, Chaveirim helped with a collapsed sukkah on a porch that was putting neighbors at risk. Emergency services, including Hatzolah, were at a moped accident on McDonald Avenue between Caton Road and Albermyle.

It’s definitely a messy day in Boro Park. Flooded streets, downed trees, and busted traffic lights are making travel tough. Volunteers and first responders are out in force, keeping people safe and clearing hazards as the rain continues.
