Important Psak Issued by Rabbonim Across the Spectrum on Covid Monoclonal Treatment on Shabbos, Yom Tov

As Covid cases from the Delta variant pick up within our community, the Covid Plasma Initiative has publicized a groundbreaking ruling by Rabbonim from every segment of the community on the permissibility of pursuing plasma treatment for Covid, even on Shabbos and Yom Tov.

Monoclonal Antibody Treatment is a method of treatment in which antibodies are manufactured, and infused into a patient in an effort to assist them in fighting off a disease.

The effectiveness of this treatment seems to have passed muster with a group of Rabbonim who hail from every segment of the community, as they rule that if “one has symptoms consistent with Covid-19, and fall into any of the following high-risk groups; 65+ years, overweight (BMI25+), Asthma/respiratory issues, Diabetes, Hypertension, Pregnant, Kidney Disease, Cardiovascular Disease, or other medical conditions, they are permitted to call the hotline even on Shabbos and Yom Tov—using a shinui—to investigate the possibility of pursuing this treatment.”

 Their 24/7 hotline is 828-475-2762 (828-4-Plasma).

The psak is signed by a list of extremely prominent Rabbonim, many of whom are experts in medical Halacha.
