Intelligence Agencies Warn of ‘Enduring Threat’ Against U.S. Jews

New York – In a stark message, a joint notice by U.S. intelligence officials to law enforcement agencies nationwide warned that Jewish communities face an “enduring threat” in the wake of recent attacks.

The memo, obtained by ABC News, was issued on Friday by the FBI, Department of Homeland Security, and National Counterterrorism Center. It comes days after a man stabbed five people with a machete at a Chanukah event at the Forshay Rebbe in Monsey and weeks after two anti-Semitic Hebrew Israelites killed three people at a kosher grocery in Jersey City. There have also been daily attacks against Jews in New York for several weeks.

The notice advised federal, state and local authorities “to remain vigilant in light of the enduring threat to Jewish communities posed by domestic violent extremists and perpetrators of hate crimes.

State and city authorities have boosted security at Jewish sites. There have been state troopers in Boro Park, Crown Heights and Flatbush.
“We remain concerned that other U.S.-based individuals … could become inspired by these attacks and carry out further violence against Jewish communities,” the document read.

Authorities noted that most of the suspected attackers used “simple tactics and relatively easily obtainable weapons such as firearms and edged weapons, although some have sought to use explosive devices.”
