Interborough Express Updates
Earlier this week the MTA held an open house for locals to get updates on the much-awaited Interborough Express, which is being called the IBX. The light rail would run between Brooklyn and Queens and would cut commute times in half for many residents.
The project is now in the early stages of environmental review and design, and it will still take a few years until construction can begin.
The MTA have proposed to allocate $2.75 billion to IBX over the next five years, which would cover around half the costs of the entire project. Additional funding isn’t expected until 2030. Although the MTA has had to push off several projects indefinitely due to Governor Hochul canceling the congestion toll, the IBX is the only new project that has been included in the 2025-2029 budget plan.
