IS 220 School Yard Project Nearing Completion, Opening Expected Within Weeks
By BoroPark24 Staff
After a year of major construction work, the long-awaited transformation of the yard at IS 220 Junior High School in Boro Park is now entering its final stages, with the space expected to open to the public within the coming weeks.
The project, located between 48th and 49th Streets and 8th and 9th Avenues, has remained closed throughout the extensive redevelopment process as crews worked on building a modernized outdoor space for both students and community residents.
According to an on-site manager who spoke with BoroPark24, construction is now nearing completion and the new yard is anticipated to officially open soon if final work continues on schedule.
The upgraded space appears to feature a green infrastructure-focused design, including newly landscaped areas, improved drainage systems, and environmentally friendly outdoor features aimed at enhancing both recreation and stormwater management.
The renovated yard is designed to serve students during school hours while also offering expanded community use outside of school time.
An official opening date has not yet been publicly announced, but with construction now winding down, residents may soon see the space reopen after an extended closure period.
