Israel’s Attorney General Suspends Meron Criminal Probe While Commission Does its Work

As BoroPark24 has reported, the long-awaited commission to investigate the roots of the Meron tragedy, which has claimed 45 precious lives, and injured many others, has finally been formed, and has begun to make some moves.

We have noted at the time that this investigation was in addition to the ongoing probe into criminal activity or negligence that may have led to the tragedy. This investigation was being conducted by the State’s Department of Justice, headed by Attorney General Avichai Mandelblit.

Today, Mandelblit announced that his investigation will be halted indefinitely. This decision comes following discussions with the members of the State Commission, also known as the “Na’or Commission,” as its head is former president of Israel’s Supreme Court, Miriam Na’or.

According to Mandelblit, the halt in the criminal investigation is meant to give deference and priority to the broad-reaching inquiry of the State Commission, which will issue findings and recommendations on how to proceed in Meron.
