Kosov Kehilla Celebrates as Construction Continues in Full Force for New Shul

The Kosov kehilla of Boro Park has reignited its project, in the last week to build a beautiful new shul on 1335 55th Street, which the chevra expects to be completed in the next year.

For more than 10 years, hundreds of Kosovers have been davening in a small space that stands next door to what will be their new location. A year ago, the shul first broke ground, but the project was delayed, while architects redesigned the new structure, which is eagerly awaited by the Chassidus.

Over Shavous, the current Kosov shul was forced to move to a local ballroom so that the huge crowd could join the kehilla and listen to the Rebbe’s tefillah and tishen.

“For simchas, many people don’t come to shul because they don’t know where to sit,” said Chaim Sobel, who is heading up the project for the growing Chassidus. “We have felt cramped for a while.”

“Once the new building is complete, the old shul will be incorporated into the new shul, so we have as much space as possible.” 

While the new Kosov shul will sit on the building’s first floor, the basement will feature a nice, big mikvah, Sobel told BoroPark24. 

“We are also going to have a nice beis medrish that will be open 24 hours a day,” said Sobel, who is still raising funds for the new construction. “The second floor will have a women’s section, and then on top of that we are planning to be build classrooms for a future boys’ yeshiva.”

Kosov may eventually build mosdos for girls, but not at the new shul’s location on 55th Street.

Sobel said what he looks forward to the most about the new Kosov shul is “having a comfortable space to daven."

“The new shul will be a place where the rebbe can give shiurim, make l’chaims for shidduchim, lead tishen, and people can come daven,” said Sobel. “We can’t wait.”
