Lights, Cameras… More Tickets? Traffic Cameras Keep Popping Up in Boro Park

By Y.M. Lowy

If you’ve been driving around Boro Park lately, you might have noticed more cameras on the roads. A few weeks ago, Boropark24 reported on other new installations, and it seems the city isn’t finished yet. Just in recent weeks, new cameras were spotted going up at 64th Street between 17th and 18th Avenues, 9th Avenue between 44th and 43rd Streets, on Caton Avenu, and 39th Street between 13th and 14th Avenues.

A recent BoroPark24 poll found that 82.25% of respondents believe the new cameras are purely for revenue, while only 17.75% think they’re meant to improve safety. Whether we like them or not, those who don’t follow the rules will have to pay the price.

For Boro Park drivers, these cameras are becoming part of daily life. Every week or two another one goes up, and there’s not much we can do about it. All we can do is stay alert, drive carefully, and hope the city takes a break from adding more.
