Massive 4-Alarm Warehouse Fire Erupts in Red Hook

A massive multi-alarm fire tore through a warehouse complex near the NYPD tow pound in Red Hook shortly after 12:30 p.m., sending thick smoke and intense flames into the sky that were visible from Boro Park and across large parts of Brooklyn.

First responding units arrived within about four minutes, but by that time the fire was already blowing out of windows, officials said. The blaze rapidly intensified and was escalated to a 4th alarm as firefighters worked to contain the growing flames.

More than 200 firefighters and EMS personnel responded to the scene, battling difficult conditions as cold temperatures and strong winds fueled the fire’s spread. Officials said the fire involved a large warehouse estimated at roughly 100 by 1,000 feet, spreading through multiple storage bays.

Sources at the scene said the fire appeared to have started in several bays and eventually involved 8 to 10 bays total, with each bay containing different types of merchandise including electronics and household items. The fire reportedly broke out in three bays before expanding.

The fire was later brought under control and no injuries were reported, though extensive damage was left behind, including heavy roof damage. The Department of Buildings is expected to be involved in assessing structural damage and safety concerns.

FDNY noted that this was the same property where previous fires were reported near the NYPD tow pound, raising additional concerns as investigators work to determine the cause.

The incident remains under investigation.
