Mayor Adams Visits Museum of Jewish Heritage in Honor of International Holocaust Remembrance Day

Mayor Eric Adams paid a visit this afternoon to the Museum of Jewish Heritage in recognition of International Holocaust Remembrance Day.

The mayor's visit was a precursor to mark the day. During the event, the mayor expressed his solidarity with those who have already suffered the loss of six million lives and who are presently suffering antisemitic attacks all over again on the world stage and beyond after the heinous October 7 attack and in escalating measures during the ongoing war.

"Antisemitism is not in our rearview mirror," the mayor said this afternoon. "It is very much in our front window. There is a real normalization of hatred, and it is becoming so pervasive that people are becoming so comfortable with it... and have the symbols of hate and are spewing out hate. We must push back on that."

Two Holocaust survivors addressed attendees, as did a survivor from the October 7 attack and a family member with four relatives presently being held hostage by Hamas terrorists.

International Holocaust Remembrance Day was officially adopted by the General Assembly on November 1, 2005, to be commemorated on January 27 going forward.

Its purpose has been one of remembrance of the six million Jews who were massacred during the Holocaust and to educate future generations of its horrors. The resolution rejected any denial of the Holocaust and condemned all manifestations of religious intolerance, incitement, harassment, or violence against anyone based on ethnic origin or religious belief. An additional part of the resolution was the call to actively preserve concentration camps, forced labor camps, and prisons.
