Mayor de Blasio Says Increased Police Presence to Continue, Arrests to Come in Days Ahead for Hate Crime Perpetrators

Mayor Bill de Blasio said this morning that he expects that the NYPD will arrest, in the next few days, the perpetrators of the hate crimes that took place in Boro Park and Flatbush over Shabbos.
“The pattern has been very clear, with hate crimes and will all crimes, the NYPD has had a remarkable track record in recent years finding suspects of crimes,” the mayor said at his press conference. “There are a lot more available resources nowadays than there used to be.
When BoroPark24 asked the mayor how long the neighborhood can expect to see a visible police presence in the neighborhood, the mayor responded by saying, “We will keep a presence there as long as it is needed.
“I certainly expect to have a lot of presence over Shabbos coming up, and we want to make sure people are safe. We want to stop this pattern dead in its tracks, show that anti-Semitism will not be accepted.”
Earlier in the press conference, the mayor spoke about his visit yesterday to the 66th Precinct, where he said “he spoke with police officials and community leaders about the importance of a police presence in the community.
“You are going to see that presence.
“We know how to do this right way: how to put that [police] presence out there that gives people a sense of security and certainly sends the message to anyone with hatred in their heart that they shouldn’t even think about it.
“We are going to protect the Jewish community and make sure that people feel that that protection is there for them.
“I have been really clear about the fact that anti-Semitism has been growing in recent years around the world, and we have to stop it.
“One place we have to stop it, for once and for all is right here in New York City, and we will do that. We will stomp it out.”
