Mayor Reassures New Yorkers: No Specific or Credible Terrorist Attacks Directed at City
In light of last week’s ISIS-K terrorist attack at the Kabul airport and the 20th anniversary of 9/11, Mayor Bill de Blasio reassured New Yorkers this morning, “Rest assured that very intensive preparations are being made, but most importantly: no specific and credible threats directed to New York City at this time.
“We take [any potential terrorism threats] very seriously,” the mayor said in response to a question about what kinds of preparations the city is doing in the case of any upgraded terrorism alerts.
“We are watching all the time,” Mayor de Blasio said, “but of course, we are hyper aware that the 20th anniversary of that horrible day, 9/11 is coming soon, and the NYPD is preparing intensely, and we are working with all of our partners in the Joint Terrorism Task Force.
“But right now, despite the very painful things in Afghanistan, there are no specific and credible threats against New York City right now, and that is crucial.”
