Mayor Zohran Mamdani Moves Into Gracie Mansion

New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani has officially moved into Gracie Mansion, the historic mayoral residence located on Manhattan’s Upper East Side.

Following the election, Mamdani was openly hesitant to move into the mansion, weighing whether living in such a residence aligned with his political identity as a mayor who has emphasized representing working New Yorkers struggling with rent and rising costs. 

Mamdani ultimately decided to move in, citing security considerations and the responsibilities of the office. When asked whether he plans to make changes to the interior, he joked that he might add a few toilet bidets, and maybe also adopt a cat. He has also said the move will not change his daily habits, including continuing to use public transportation and biking around the city.
