Following the wall collapse reported by BoroPark24, more details have been released about the incident, which occurred during a neighboring demolition work project and caused extensive damage to the Salvation Army community center.

Crews were carrying out permitted demolition at 5005 Fifth Avenue shortly before 1:30 p.m. Thursday when the wall gave way and fell onto the Salvation Army’s Brooklyn Sunset Park Corps at 520 50th Street. No injuries have been reported.

The collapse struck the front of the center, damaging its entrance and reaching into the building’s interior. Broken brickwork and large pieces of debris were left piled against the property following the impact.

The damaged building, which dates back to 1931, houses several programs used by neighborhood residents. The center operates a food pantry, serves hot lunches during the week, and provides an after-school program for local families.

It remains unclear whether any of the center’s activities will be interrupted while the damage is inspected and the property is secured.

Department of Buildings inspectors are assessing the structural condition of the building as the investigation into the collapse continues.
