More than 100,000 New Yorkers have Received $100 Incentive to Get Their Shots

The effort to vaccinate New York has reached a new high now that the city has administered 10.5 million doses.

As part of the city’s efforts to bring vaccinations to residents who may not want to trek to the city’s large vaccination sites, mobile vaccination sites have provided 200,000 doses.

Not only has the city brought shots to New Yorkers’ neighborhoods and even into their homes, but since July 30, when Mayor Bill de Blasio announced that New Yorkers who stepped up to get vaccinated would receive $100 debit cards, 100,000 of the city’s residents have received that incentive.

This morning at his press conference, Mayor Bill de Blasio said, "Fighting COVID is where everything comes together: right now.

"You want kids back in school? Fight COVID," he said. "You want to make sure we can bring jobs back? Fight COVID.

"You want to protect small businesses? Fight COVID. You want to stop restrictions from coming back? Remember those restrictions?

"I don't know anyone who liked those. You want to stop those from happening?

"Fight COVID, fight the delta variant, and that means vaccination."

The mayor then said that New York City is leading the way in getting its residents protected from a virus that will not stop mutating and infecting people until everyone is vaccinated against it.

In particular, the city has now mandated that all of its city employees, healthcare workers, and teachers and school staffs get vaccinated. In addition, New Yorkers now must show proof of vaccination before dining indoors, exercising indoors, and attending indoor entertainment.

"You want to fully participate in New York City?" the mayor asked. "All you have to do is get vaccinated."

In speaking about the vaccination mandate of teachers, school employees and students "to protect our kids," the mayor said, "Our kids deserve it, our families deserve it.

     "We are moving forward.

"We are going to continue to use any and all options to keep the people of this city safe, to protect everyone, and bring this city back."
