MTA Installs Vertical Stanchions in Stations to Protect Conductors

BoroPark24 Staff

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) installed new vertical stanchions made of flexible rubberized material on the portions at the 125 St train station, directly adjacent to the train conductor’s cabs, to enhance the safety and security of subway conductors.

This new project is part of a pilot program, which will be monitored over the next few months, and once the results are in the MTA will decide if to expand this and install them in more train stations.

The new program for the safety of the conductors is part of the larger effort by the MTA and NYCT to advance safety upgrades across the system using a combination of physical infrastructure and increased police presence in stations and on trains.
