MTA Tries Again To Discourage Fare Evasion

By Idy Perl
The MTA is upgrading the turnstiles at train stations to further discourage fare evasion.
Upgrades have been installed for around 1,400 turnstiles in 100 train stations that prevent the turnstiles from being pulled back to allow someone to walk through. The MTA also installed fins at four train stations to prevent people from jumping over the turnstile.
The MTA says they already see a decrease in fare evasions at those stations and plans to install these modifications in 60% of stations by the end of 2024.
