Multiple Brass Fountains Stolen From Prospect Park

Visitors looking to cool off with a drink of water at Prospect Park in these warm days may be out of luck after several brass drinking fountain fixtures were stolen from locations throughout the park.

The thefts come as New York City experiences warm summer weather and more people head outdoors to parks and recreational areas. With several fountains now out of service due to the thefts, parkgoers may have fewer places to access drinking water during the hotter days.

According to the NYC Parks Department, thieves removed the brass fountain fixtures, which are believed to have been targeted for their value as scrap metal. The thefts have left multiple water fountains unusable while repairs and replacements are being arranged.

Parks officials say the missing fixtures will be replaced with stainless steel fixtures that are less attractive to thieves, and authorities are investigating the incidents.
