New Call by NYC Mayor: Cover Your Face and Nose when Out
While many New Yorkers have already been doing so for a while, Mayor De Blasio urged all New Yorkers On Thursday afternoon to cover their faces and noses when venturing outside, which should also be done minimally.
This is not a substitute for the social distancing measures already in place—rather another measure to prevent the spread of Coronavirus at a time when a record number cases are being seen in New York, and the city’s hospitals are overflowing.
The call comes amid a new recognition that this type of covering does indeed go along way to mitigate the spread, in contrast to previous directive that masks do not prevent the spread.
It is thought by some that this was meant to prevent a run on masks, so it would be there for the healthcare workers when they need it.
To this end, the mayor reiterated: “You can get creative; use a scarf or another piece of clothing. Leave the surgical masks and N-95 masks for the healthcare workers.”
“When you put on that face covering, you’re protecting everyone else,” said the mayor.
