New York City Troopers Report Multiple Arrests During Thanksgiving Weekend Enforcement

By Yisroel R.

The New York State Police released their Thanksgiving weekend traffic enforcement results, showing a focused operation in New York City that led to multiple arrests and citations between November 26 and November 30.

Troopers assigned to the NYC detail made 9 DWI arrests, issued 104 speeding tickets, and recorded additional violations for distracted driving, seatbelt compliance, and Move Over Law enforcement. In total, the New York City unit issued 445 tickets during the five-day campaign.

Although NYC represents only a portion of the statewide numbers, State Police say the enforcement in urban areas carries unique challenges. Heavy traffic, dense pedestrian activity, and constant highway congestion make impaired and aggressive driving especially dangerous within the city limits.

This year’s city enforcement included sobriety checkpoints at key travel corridors leading in and out of the Bronx, Queens, Brooklyn, and Staten Island. Troopers also monitored handheld device violations, a growing concern on city highways.

Statewide, the Thanksgiving enforcement effort resulted in 13,036 tickets and 247 DWI arrests. While most enforcement occurred outside the five boroughs, New York City Troopers played a significant role in targeting impaired driving in high-risk corridors and reducing potential holiday-related crashes.

State Police say the goal of the campaign is not only enforcement but education, emphasizing roadway safety during one of the busiest travel weekends of the year.
