Sen. Cruz Will Likely Make Another Presidential Run

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas), who came in second to former President Donald Trump in the 2016 Republican presidential primaries, said that he is strongly considering another run for the White House in 2024.

“I ran in 2016, [and] it was the most fun I ever had in my life,” said Sen. Cruz, who remembered the crowded race that included 17 candidates. “I ended up placing second.”

Cruz’s candidacy will likely place him again at odds with Trump, who spoke rudely about Cruz’s wife and strangely accused Cruz’s father of being involved in the assassination of JFK, to which Cruz responded by calling the former president a “pathological liar,” “serial philander,” and “utterly amoral.”

WikiLeaks Founder Julian Assange Hopes to Block Britain’s Transfer of His Spying Charges to US Courts

Lawyers for WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange, requested to appeal a court’s ruling that would have allowed Britain to extradite, or transfer, his spying charges to the US, where he fears he would face harsher punishments, such as at higher security penitentiaries, segregation from other prisoners, and the loss of privileges, such as visits, mail, and phone calls.

In 2006, Assange created WikiLeaks, which is an online library of more than 10 million official documents that were censored because they contain secrets of war, spying, and corruption.

“WikiLeaks is a giant library of the world's most persecuted documents,” Assange told Der Spiegel. “We give asylum to these documents, we analyze them, we promote them, and we obtain more.” Attorneys say they don't expect Britain’s High Court to make a decision on Assange’s request until late January.

FDA Authorizes Second Drug that Effectively Treats Omicron

One day after the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) authorized the emergency use of Pfizer’s Paxlovid for the treatment COVID, the agency authorized a second easy-to-use pill, which is made by Merck, and which can provide a second-choice to effectively treat the rising tides of patients who are infected with the Omicron variant.

While the pill, which is known as molnupiravir, is not considered to be as effective as Paxlovid in treating Omicron, Merck’s new medication also brings with it more serious safety concerns, such as its potential to create birth defects: a hazard that will be prominently displayed on its label.

While not to be used by pregnant women, the FDA authorized Merck’s drug for adults, such as the elderly and those with obesity and heart disease and early symptoms of COVID-19, who face the highest risks of hospitalization.

TSA Agent, who is a Former EMT, Heroically Saves a Baby’s Life in the Security Line at Newark

Cecila Morales, who two months ago started working as Transportation Security Agent (TSA) at Newark Liberty International Airport, put her 10 years of experience as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) to life-saving use this week, when a mother in the security line started screaming when she picked up her 2-month-old son out of his carrier and saw that he wasn’t breathing.

While the mother frantically tried to get her infant son to respond, Morales tried to shout directions to help her, but the TSA agent soon saw that the mother was too frightened to focus clearly on her instructions.

“I knew if I didn’t get over there, it wasn’t going to be a good outcome,” said Morales, who lives in Newark. “I jumped over the checkpoint conveyor belt roller, and she gave me the baby. I [carefully and methodically] performed the infant Heimlich maneuver on him,” until the baby again started to breathe.

As the mother was “too in shock to hold her son,” Morales then carried the infant boy through the metal detector and waited with the mother for the pediatric EMT to arrive with some oxygen for the baby boy.
