News Sparks: Vax Mandate Freeze, Dems Not Seeking Re-election

Federal Court Suspends Biden Vaccine Mandate

A GOP-appointed federal appeals court issued a temporary freeze on Saturday against President Biden's vaccine mandate that requires workers at private companies with at least 100 workers to get vaccinated or be tested weekly.

The panel of judges for the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals ruled that "the petitions give cause to believe there are grave statutory and constitutional issues with the mandate, which is hereby STAYED, pending further action by this court."

At Least 12 House Dems Won’t Seek Re-Election

As Democrats consider next year’s midterm elections, House representatives in battleground districts have to decide whether to run again. At least 12 Democratic lawmakers have decided not to run for reelection, NBC News reported.

Citing the upset victory of Republican Glenn Youngkin over Incumbent Governor Terry Mcauliffe and the redistricting process set to take place in the coming months, many Democrats, who feel the tide has turned against them, will choose to seek different offices or retire from politics, instead of facing a tough reelections.

Vice President Harris to Denounce Anti-Israel Hatred

Vice President Kamala Harris has released her prepared remarks that will condemn anti-Semitism and the singling out of Israel on Sunday night at the Anti-Defamation League’s ‘Never Is Now’ virtual conference.

“Three years ago, we suffered the most deadly attack on the American Jewish community in the history of our nation at the Tree of Life Synagogue in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania,” Harris is set to say, according to the Jewish Telegraphic Agency (JTA) “And I want to be very clear about this: When Jews are targeted because of their beliefs or their identity when Israel is singled out because of anti-Jewish hatred that is anti-Semitism. And that is unacceptable.”

Two Upstate New Yorkers Challenge New York’s Restrictive Gun Laws

New York State has one of the most restrictive gun laws in the country, however that may change, now that two upstate New Yorkers, who were refused unrestricted licenses to carry handguns for hunting and target shooting, have argued that New York’s gun restrictions are unconstitutional.

The two people were barred from unrestricted licenses because they did not meet New York’s standard of “proper cause,” which requires that a person demonstrate a heightened need to carry a handgun for self-defense, but the Supreme Court now holds that the amendment protects an individual’s right to have a gun for certain purposes, including, but not limited to, self-defense.

If New York’s current gun law is overturned, legal experts say the state may have to either lower its standards, by a little or a lot, as to whom is granted hand-gun licenses.
